What an evaluation is

A DWI or substance-use evaluation is a structured clinical assessment that determines whether alcohol or other substance use is present, and at what level, following a charge or conviction. Courts, probation departments, and attorneys order these evaluations to inform sentencing, probation conditions, and license-related decisions.

The evaluation is conducted by a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) using a standardized interview and recognized screening instruments. It results in a written report with a clinical impression and, where appropriate, a recommendation — for example, education, intervention, or treatment.

This is a clinical assessment, not therapy and not a course. It is confidential, non-judgmental, and built specifically for the needs of court-referred clients who need documentation completed accurately and on time.

Schedule & Intake

How much does an evaluation cost?
The standard DWI/substance-use evaluation covers the interview, screening, clinical review, and your written report. Please contact for pricing; your exact fee is confirmed when you schedule, before any charge.
How quickly will I get my report?
Most written reports are completed within 2–3 business days of your interview. If you have a court date approaching, let us know when you schedule and we'll prioritize accordingly.
Can the report go straight to my attorney or probation officer?
Yes. With your written authorization, we can send the completed report directly to your attorney, probation officer, or the court, in addition to providing your own copy.
Is the evaluation the same as the DWI Education course?
No. The evaluation is a clinical assessment that determines what, if anything, is recommended. The TDLR DWI Education course is a separate 12-hour program. Some courts require both — if so, we can coordinate them.
What do I need to bring?
Have your court order or attorney's request, a photo ID, and any paperwork specifying what the court requires. Sharing these up front helps us tailor the evaluation to your case.
Is it confidential?
Yes. Your evaluation is confidential and only released with your written consent or as required by your court order. It is conducted with the same discretion as any clinical service.
